The Azerbaijan National Carpet Museum was created in the 70s of the XX century when Azerbaijan was still part of the USSR. At that time it was the only museum in the world dedicated to carpet weaving. In recent years the exposition has been significantly expanded, a building of an unusual shape was built special for the museum, repeating the appearance of a folded carpet. The museum presents finished products and all stages of carpet weaving, which is one of the most ancient crafts of the country. Azerbaijan has a special law protecting the process of creating a carpet and supporting craftsmen.
During an excursion to the Carpet Museum in Baku one can see real masterpieces from various regions of the country, which are made manually and using technology. The oldest exhibit in the collection is a fragment of the Tabriz carpet of the 17th century. In addition the museum contains archaeological finds - dishes, household items, and jewelry.
