The capital of modern Armenia was known even in the time of one of the most ancient states of the world Urartu, it is believed that Yerevan was built on the site of the ancient Urartian fortress Erebuni. During a tour of Yerevan you must visit the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts - Matenadaran. This is one of the largest repositories in the world, its funds include more than 17 thousand ancient manuscripts and more than 10 thousand ancient archival documents. Manuscripts in Hebrew, Latin, Armenian, Russian, Arabic, Syriac, Greek are stored here. The collection of the institute continues to replenish.
