Noravank Monastery built in the XIII-XIV centuries, is located in a gorge, which is surrounded by red rocks. Its amazingly harmonious architecture and excellent preservation are amazing. In the Middle Ages Noravank was an important cultural center of Armenia. Medieval sculptors and architects worked within its walls, the most prominent of which was the stone craftsman and miniaturist Momik.
On the territory of Noravank Monastery today you can see a rich collection of traditional Armenian architectural monuments called “Khachkar”. These are large stone steles with hand-carved patterns. Khachkars in Armenia have been made in honor of significant events since ancient times. Each khachkar is unique and inimitable; on an excursion to Noravank there is a significant number of original and well-preserved monuments.
