The city of Mtskheta is located 30 kilometers from Tbilisi. It was founded in the second half of the 1st millennium BC and is considered the first capital of Georgia.
The remains of fortress walls and bridges have been preserved on its territory. The main attraction is the 11th-century Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, at the base of which is the tunic of Jesus Christ.
During a tour to Mtskheta you should definitely visit the Jvari monastery. It was built at the end of the VI - beginning of the VII century on the top of the mountain. According to legend, it was this place that the first cross was installed during the baptism of Georgia.
